May 9th, 2010

On Mother's Day, Frankie & I went to McKinney Falls, just south of the airport off 183. It's amazing to be in the middle of a state park only a half hour from home. The only thing that reminded me there were homes nearby were the sounds of mowing and weed wacking. The day was overcast and a bit cool - perfect for a small hike and picnic lunch outdoors.

Frankie loved the wildflowers and practiced taking pictures of them with my camera. He even took a good picture of me. We walked to the "upper falls" and across the rocks to the water. He thought it looked like the moon and enjoyed exploring the "craters". Our visit coincided with what must be a butterfly migration...there were butterflys everywhere...and plenty of caterpillars, too. Frankie had a good time finding caterpillars for close up shots.

As always, he was very friendly and social with everyone else. He asked a few people fishing what they were doing ("Hey Guy! What are you fishing for!"), told random passersby about the flowers, tried to make friends with everyone in the picnic area. Shy he is not.

After three or four hours, we headed home. We did some grilling at night and did our homework for the week.
